I made these for our Luau themed Evening of Excellence!

Whole Grain Blue Cheese Crackers

3 1/2 C Whole Grain Flour (I used Rye ground at a course setting)
1/3 C Olive Oil
1 tsp salt
1 C water
2 Tbs Blue Cheese Powder
2 tsp Chicken Soup Base
Salt / Spices / Seeds for sprinkling

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
In a medium bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, salt, cheese powder and soup base. Pour in the Olive oil and water; mix until just blended.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough as thin as possible - no thicker than 1/8 inch. I used some of the leftover course Rye flour I had ground. Use a small biscuit or cookie cutter to cut into rounds. Place dough on an ungreased baking sheet. Use a fork to prick holes in the top. Sprinkle on salt, seeds or your favorite seasoning mix. I used Zapp spice blend and Chia seeds!
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until crisp and light brown. Baking time may be different depending on how thin your crackers are. I needed almost 20 minutes.

Gazpacho Shooters With Garlic Roasted Shrimp

Gazpacho

2 Cans Italian Style Tomatoes (stewed or diced)
1 English Cucumber seeded and small diced
6 green onions, chopped
1 Tbs chopped Parsley
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 - 1 tsp horseradish (how spicy do you like it?)
zest of 1 lime
juice of 1 lime
salt and pepper

In a blender, pulse tomatoes, onion parsley, garlic, Worcestershire, horseradish, lime, salt and pepper. Pulse it about 4 - 5 times until barely combined, but chunky. Add in the cucumber and give it 2 - 3 more pulses. Refrigerate a few hours to let flavors combine.

Garlic Roasted Shrimp

1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined, leave tails on
6-9 cloves minced garlic (heck...chop up the whole head!)
1/4 C Olive Oil
Juice of one lemon
Zest of one lemon
pinch of red pepper flakes
salt
pepper
chopped parsley

Combine all ingredients in a large ziplock bag and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour. Roast in a 400 degree oven for 6 - 8 minutes, until just pink. Remove from oven and top with chopped parsley.

I am actually using votive candle holders as shot glasses in the picture above! But if you have the perfect size shot glasses...Yay!

Haven't been feeling great these last few days. It seems like everything I have is hurting. So achy and yucky. Yesterday, I barely made it out of bed at all. I am still hurting today, but not nearly as wiped out as yesterday. It seems like my body just shuts down after going through a few busy crazy days.

I wish we were going someplace nice and cool for the 4th of July. But we are stuck here. We'll go out to my parent's house after church and catch the fireworks in Florence. But I'm pretty sure that even when the sun goes down, it's going to be too stinkin hot!

Kayden and I went and saw Toy Story 3 today! (3D) It was really good. I got all blubbery and weepy at the end. Dang you Pixar!

James has his percussion concert tonight. That's going to be fun to watch!

Some Savings...And A Story

You all know how I feel about saving money! I really LOVE it! It's my "thing"! But, this week, I was feeling pretty cranky about the whole coupon thing. I hadn't been to the store in a few weeks, so it was taking a lot of time and brain cells to get this week's preparations done. Last night, I just quit and went to bed because my brain wasn't functioning and just couldn't organize anymore. This morning, I got up at 5 and finished, still not looking forward to whole shopping experience.

You see, for the sales this week, they would take $5 off for every 10 of the special sale items you purchase, meaning that I had to keep track of everything while I shopped. It is a real headache sometimes. Today was no exception.

I got to the store early, (to beat the snowbirds) and started in on it. About 1/2 way through my shopping, my pen (that I was keeping my 10 item tally with) ran out of ink. Did I have another pen in my purse? No. I was SO bugged! There was no amount of sucking or shaking that would make my pen write. Grrrr.. So I headed off to the office supply aisle to begrudgingly buy a pen.

Standing there in front of the pens were 2 men having a indepth discussion about pens. So, I reached around them, grabbed a "sale" pen and started to head off. One of the men asked if I wouldn't mind helping his friend find a pen. That's when I noticed that one of the men was very mentally handicapped, and he was helping his blind friend try to find pens. The blind man said he wanted a "Bic" pen, so I told him about a few there, then grabbed a bag of the "bulk" pens from the bottom, which were what he was looking for. They were SO happy to get the pens! They thanked me over and over!

After they walked off, I got emotional and started to tear up. Now, you may think I'm nuts, but I KNOW that my pen ran out of ink because Heavenly Father knew those men needed my help. And that I needed their help. Yes, I helped them find what they were looking for, but they helped me more. Right there in the aisle, I said a little prayer and repented for my crappy attitude and gave thanks for being sent to help the two friends.

I have so much to be grateful for. I need to quit getting so wrapped up in my day to day mess and look around me for all that I've been blessed with. Thank you Heavenly Father for sending me two angels in the grocery aisle!

And what more of a blessing do I need?? I saved 75% on my groceries today! The best I've ever done!

Big Plans...No Gas

I had big plans for this week. I really wanted to get my Christmas stuff all set up and done. But I don't know how that's gonna happen. I have so much going on and I really haven't been feeling that great. I know it's because I'm not getting enough nutrition. I've got to just buckle down and make myself take the vitamins. (They make me nauseous.) There is no way I'm going to be able to get through this holiday season with the energy, (or lack of) that I have now.

Today I'm heading out to the grocery stores with my coupons. Usually I'm really excited about it, but today I just feel anxious and overwhelmed. I've also got to finish getting stuff ready for our Ward "Swap Meet" on Thursday. My house is a mess with all the "going through stuff" I've been doing. I've got to get it done because the mess is making me nervous!

We have Young Women in Excellence coming up next week. I have a cute idea for the invites and handouts and I just need to get them done. My list for the week is growing and growing.

And...no school on Wednesday? Are you kidding?? Come on! I should be a good mom and plan something fun for that day. The zoo or something. But it probably won't happen.

Oye! I've got to get to the grocery store before all the "snowbirds" snap up my sales!

I have been so, so tired lately. Not normal tired, it's excessive tired. I can go back to sleep after everyone leaves for the day and sleep for sometimes 3-3 1/2 hours. And still wake up exhausted. At least I've made it back to the gym this week, after several weeks of having no time. I went this morning, but then came home and slept.

I have so much to do. But I can't seem to get any of it done. (Of course...it's hard to get things done when you're sleeping all the time!) Healthwise I have felt ok, except for the almost daily headaches, but you kind of just get used to them, I guess.

Wow...what a downer post! I'd better put on some Christmas music or something...

Bad Mama

I did not feel like being the mama today. I have been grouchy and bleh feeling, although I did make it to the gym. Miracle of miracles. But it about did me in.

I was hoping that when Dave got home, he would kick in and be the parent for awhile, but, alas, it didn't happen. So, I grouched through dinner and homework and right now, I'm counting down the minutes till 8pm....bedtime. (2 minutes, by the way.) Seriously, I don't know how much more Lego Star Wars I can take. The gun shooting is drilling into my brain.

Why does it always seem like Dave and I have bad days on the same day. Shouldn't we be able to tag team? But when we're both out of sorts, someone has to step up. I just really didn't want to.

My blog has seriously suffered at the hands of Facebook! I am going to commit to blogging one post a day for the entire month of November. Although, I'm starting on Nov. 2nd. Does that mean I've failed already?? Crap!

We had a really fun and busy Halloween! Last week we had Trunk or Treat at the Church, Kayden had a party at a friend's house, Trick or Treating on Saturday and a Family Party on Sunday. We partied till we're pooped!

Now...to start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas...

The Bear's Rattlesnake Adventure!

The Bear stayed out at my mom and dad's this weekend. On Saturday morning, he and my mom went out on one of their walks.

As The Bear went over to the stick pile to grab a stick, he found a rattlesnake! They went back to the house to get the camera, but it was gone when they got back. (Ok...it was there, but when they had to go BACK to get the memory card for the camera...it was gone!) So, this morning they checked again! And it was in the SAME spot!

It's like "Where's Waldo"! Where is the snake?? Can you find it??

Ah-ha!! There it is!!

My dad says he thinks it's a Diamondback! It didn't seem to mind that The Bear and Grandma were there watching it and talking about it. It never even rattled at them!

I'm Canning!

I'm on a canning spree again! It goes in phases. Yesterday I canned 26 quarts of Beef Stew! Here's the recipe!

Today I'm doing chili! My first batch is bubbling away waiting to be canned as I type! I will post a pic when it gets all done!

So, after getting home from taking Clinton on Tuesday, he calls and tells me I need to go BACK on Thursday for a band parent meeting. I wasn't thrilled, but I went back, because that's what we do...right? Of course, The Bear woke up sick that morning, so I called him out from school and we make the trek together...back up the mountain!

It probably wasn't necessary that I was at that meeting...it lasted all of 20 minutes...but we did get to spend a little time with Clinton, so that was good. And The Bear had a good time gallivanting about in the beautiful 80 degree weather! It was GORGEOUS!!

NAU or Bust!

We left early yesterday morning to move Clinton up to his dorm at NAU in Flagstaff! When we got there, we found out he was going to be on the 3rd floor...and there were NO ELEVATORS!! So...we trucked up and down those stairs taking in all his MANY boxes!

I can't believe how small the dorm room is! Did Clinton want our help in getting it set up? NO! We wanted to put things away and organize, but he wouldn't let us. I wonder if the things will ever get unpacked??

He did let us make the bed...but that's it!

We were sad to leave him, but he wasn't sad to stay! And then he was off to drum line auditions!

He texted me later that night to let me know that he not only made drum line, but he gets to play tenors (quads)! A pretty good achievement for a freshman! Congrats Clinton! We're proud of you!!

Summer

Our summer is just going by! And it's so stinkin hot that we hardly want to leave the house!

James is here with us for July, which is always fun! Tuesday night we took the whole family to the midnight showing of the new Harry Potter! We got there an hour early and still had to sit on the 2nd row! It was really fun! So many weird people to watch! We had put Kayden to bed at 8 and woke him up at 11 to go. He stayed awake for the whole movie and loved it! We took him in his Super Mario Galaxy PJ's with his Pooh Bear and favorite blanket in tow. We were quite the site!

James went to Saguaro lake with the Young Men/Young Women from church yesterday. They had a great time, but he's pretty wiped out today! Clinton is finally feeling better, though he still has a nasty cough that's hanging on.

I really need to get some stuff done today. Laundry, cleaning, ect. But...yuck! I have no desire!

Well...surgery has pretty much kicked my butt this month. I'm too tired to do much of anything, but here are a few pics of the happenings this month...

The Bear's Cub Scout pack had their "Raingutter Regatta"!

I am home from surgery and everything is going...ok. I am very sore and in a good bit of pain. Blah. I have to be on "clear liquids" for the next 10 days, which is going to be pretty hard to do. But...I can do it. I just might complain a little! lol

But for now, I'm off to take some more drugs and have a nap!

It is 4:30. I have been up since 3:30. I am feeling nervous and stressed. And tired and headache-y. I am shooting family pictures for a friend of mine today and I am so worried that I'll do a sucky job. I hope it will all go ok. She knows I'm just learning, but still! I want them to look great!

I have been on my low carb diet for a week now. I have had ups and downs. I don't know why I fight myself so hard. I make myself crazy! It will be so nice to finally have this surgery over and start on the rest of my life.

I'm going to go and try to sleep again. If I don't, I'll want to eat something. Crap.

It is called, "Healthy Habits, Happy Homes" We meet once a week to discuss different topics and to support each other in developing a more healthy lifestyle. I am trying to get so much done today, but having little success. I went walking with my Aunt Barbara this morning. That was good. We haven't walked for a long time, but are going to start doing it 3 times a week in the mornings.

When I got home, I started mucking out my room. A friend of mine gave me a nice cabinet when she moved and I'm going to stash my scrapbook stuff in it. But, I've got to get a space cleared out first. That's no easy task. Grrrrr...why am I such a slob??

I absolutely HAVE to get Clinton's graduations announcements out this week. Maybe I'll sit him down and have him address some envelopes. But...would the post office be able to read them?? Hmmmm...

I think the Excedrins I took this morning are wearing off. I'm feeling so sleepy. Maybe I need a couple more!

Dave's sister and her family were here visiting over the weekend. So, on Saturday night, we had a little family get together and played a TON of Guitar Hero! It was A BLAST! And so funny watching everyone!

Horse and Pony Show

Tonight, I am supposed to do a presentation at our Band Boosters meeting to encourage parents of kids in band next year to participate in the boosters program. It's not a big deal, as I have done this same "object lesson" several times now. I have kids holding balloons with dollar amounts written on them to represent funds that band boosters raise and then pop the balloons to show what would happen to that money if parents don't participate. I think they keep asking me to do it because I'm not afraid to "put on a show".

But, what if I don't feel like putting a show on? I really don't today. I woke up with a headache that I'm having a hard time getting rid of. And I still need to do my exercises and sets of stairs for my daily goals. I don't usually mind "putting on a show", but what if I just can't do it?

I wonder if they'll have an issue if I turn in a receipt for a Red Bull along with my balloons receipt???

The Bear's Busy Week

Thursday night was his school's 20th anniversary celebration. His class was assigned to sing one of the songs. They did a great job and he even sang, (or at least mouthed) every word! We went to 5 and Diner for dinner afterwards.....yum!

On Friday, his Cub Scout den had a field trip to the Natural History Museum. I went along to help corral the boys! It was super fun!

Keeping track of Cub Scouts is like trying to keep track of ants in an ant hill! There are only 2 things to do.....

Lock them up....or.....

Show them a movie about POOP! (the museum had a huge display about all kinds of poop...just what 8 year old boys love to hear about!

They also got a kick out of panning for gold. Good times!

On Sunday we had Dave's family's Easter Dinner/Party out at Sharree and Ricky's. My brother in law's family was down visiting from Utah, so we had a HUGE group of people! Easter Part One

On Saturday, we went out to my mom/dad/grandma's for a BBQ and egg hunt. It was a cold and rainy day, but we had a great time!

On Sunday, we had church at 8am, so we made the boys wait until we got home to do baskets and another egg hunt. The Bear came down Sunday morning and informed me that bunnies do not talk and that the mamma's are the Easter Bunny. So, for the rest of the day, I was reffered to as the "Easter Mamma".

Boring Blog

My dad says my blog is getting pretty boring. Well...I don't want a boring blog! So, here's a little ditty we heard from The Bear on our way home from church on Sunday...

"Mooooooommmm....Clinton stole my balls!"

There you go. Good times.

On another note, there was an attempted kidnapping on our street last night. The police came by our house at about 7:30 to let us know and see if we saw anything. Basically, a green car with 3 men tried to get a young girl to get into their car. She ran away screaming and they drove off. The only witness was a young boy who said there was an "A" in the license plate number. We talked to The Bear about it this morning and now he's scared that bad guys are going to come and get him. Nice.

So, basically, I'm afraid to let The Bear out of the house alone. Stinkin' low lifes!

I am just coming up on the one month mark of my first shot. Next Tuesday, I will go have my blood drawn again to see if it worked. So far, I haven't gotten sick (knock on Sudafed). Wouldn't that be great if something as simple as a shot worked!?!

Easter Week Activities

This week, our family has been learning about the different events that lead up to Easter morning! So, last night, I thought it would be fun to have a dinner with foods that could have been eaten by Jesus and his disciples.

I cheated and picked up some Gyro meat and Pita from the Greek restaurant up the street. I figured it would be close enough! I also bought some real "unleavened bread" from Trader Joe's.

Here, we have dates, olives, figs and a salad made from apples, chopped almonds, raisins and topped with a honey/lemon dressing. (so yummy!)

The Bear wasn't so sure about the figs, but thought they were "ok". He liked the dates though!

At this point, so close to graduation, I think Clinton is just tolerating my existance. But he came along with us anyway, and didn't complain...too much!

Dave will always go along with whatever scheme I decide to try!

Tonight we are headed over to see the Easter Pageant at the Temple grounds. We have to get there 2 hours early just to get seats! Crazy! I've never seen it, but I've heard it's awesome!

Day of Percussion

I spent the day today with my mom at the Arizona Percussive Arts Society spring festival, listening to Clinton perform. He played a marimba solo, snare solo, marimba duet (with his friend, Annie) and the drum set. He did an awesome job! They play for judges and receive pages of critique. There were high school and colleges from across the state who participated.

His snare solo was so great that he was asked to be one of the two soloists to perform at the concert this evening. He was also named the alternate for a scholarship to a summer percussion camp in Wisconsin.

It was fun to spend the day with him, listening to all the great musicians! Now...If I could get him to smile while he plays....

Lemons, Lemons, Lemons!

My mom has been here for the last couple of days, helping me get some stuff done around the house. This morning, she went out for a walk and found a lemon tree in front of a empty house whose lemons were falling on the ground and going to waste. So, she went over in the car and brought back BAGS of lemons!

We spent the morning zesting and juicing lemons! I now 18 quarts of lemon juice in my freezer! (And a ziplock FULL of zest!) Plus the juice we've already made into some FAB lemonade! I'm going to try my hand at a lemon meringue pie, maybe a lemon cake, some lemon chicken, lemon poppyseed muffins, some more lemonade......

Test Results...Finally!

I went back to the Immunologist today for allergy testing and to get my lab results. The allergy tests came back negative for everything but CATS! (I knew this...evil beasts! lol) But my lab results were the real kicker.

She had done tests to check out the antibodies my body should be producing to fight off infection. She said the low end of the "normal" range will show that your body produces antibodies to fight off 70% of the known yuck that is out there. My body produces less that 2%. This isn't great news, but at least I know that there is a "reason" why this is happening.

So, there are a few "next steps". The first was to get a Pneumonia vaccination. She said that this will sometimes jump start the body into making the needed antibodies. So I got that today. I will have another blood test in a month to see if that works. If it doesn't, we'll try the shot one more time, wait another month, then another blood test. The next step is long term antibiotics. (I pretty much have been doing that, right?) If that is unsuccessful, I will need to get monthly blood transfusions to replace the missing antibodies. (Doesn't that sound delightful? But if it works...I'll do it with a smile on my face!)

Basically, my body is continually trying to fight off infection that it has no chance in killing. So it never is getting the time for rebuilding and rest. Which is why I'm so exhausted and run down. It looks like a long road ahead, but at least we are doing SOMETHING!

Dave took off the day from work to spend with me. We had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory and were planning on going to a movie after. I just didn't feel good enough to go, so we came home and had a nap instead. We're going to try for a movie this evening.

Another Update

I'm sorry I have been absent for so long. I've got some weird stuff going on folks. Weird, even for me. I have just about lost the ability to function as a normal person. I am dealing with a smothering, overwhelming exhaustion that I can't figure out. It feels like an invisible weight is pressing down on me all over, making it hard to walk, lift my arms, even type.

I went to the new Dr today and had some more lab work done. We'll see how that goes. Luckily, it's Spring Break this week and my boys are at my mom and dad's for a few days. Tomorrow is our 9th Anniversary, Dave and me. Dave is taking the day off, so that will be nice. I hope we'll be able to go to a movie or something. Right now, I don't think I could sit through one or even walk from the parking lot to the theater. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

I haven't left comments on many of your blogs for a long time. I'm so sorry. I do read them though. I hope you are all doing well! I'll be back to normal soon...I hope...

I have had a rough week. It has been a chore to even venture out of bed. Although it is not hurting as bad to breathe, I feel so weak. Even this little bit of typing is a struggle. It's really weird. Just walking from room to room is exhausting. So, I have pretty much stayed in bed.

My poor family has been left to forge ahead for themselves. Who knows what they've been eating. I am so grateful for my friend Debbie! She called this morning and said she was bringing dinner over. What a huge blessing! A real dinner for my family! They were so happy! And the food was delish!

Thank you SO VERY MUCH! It was just what we needed!

I have so much I need to do that I'm getting behind on. This can't go on for much longer...can it? I hope that it's not something more serious that I'm overlooking. I feel spent.

Weekend Stuff

Ok, so as you already know, I've been sick. Again. As usual. Thursday night, I broke down and headed over to Urgent Care, as it was getting harder to get enough air in my lungs. I was diagnosed with "Early Pneumonia". Great. Three prescriptions later and a long wait at the drugstore and I landed myself in bed.

Friday, I felt horrible. But Clinton had a concert that night that I was determined to go to. He is in a band with some of the other "jazz band" guys at school and they were "headlining" the American Cancer Society Relay for Life benefit concert at their school. It was held in the outdoor amphitheater. There were 5 bands that played. We had to suffer through a couple of really bad ones, but everyone else was great. The problem...right before Clinton's band was to play, all the sprinklers came on. So, we all crowded onto the stage to watch the performance. They were awesome! We wished they could have played longer! I was able to get some great shots of them. We will try to post some video later this week.

The cool air and wet clothes on Friday night were not my friend. By Saturday, I felt horrible, but when I tried to lie down, it was hard to breath. So I spent a good part of the day sitting at my computer. I was able to put together a couple scrapbook pages from the concert pics. They took a long time because I was feeling so crappy. But I could do them while sitting still.

I have been in bed all day today. I missed church. I am right now missing our family dinner at my In Law's house. This is my first venture out of bed. I feel like it is taking the medicine a long time to work. I feel so weak. I guess I'm going back to bed.

Down The Drain

I wish I knew what was wrong with me. I just don't feel good. Hardly ever. I am supposed to be a volunteer at The Bear's school, but I haven't done anything in a LONG time. His teacher probably thinks I'm the worse mom ever. I never know what kind of day it's going to be. It's hard to plan ahead. So many days, I wake up with a horrible headache. Sometimes, I barely make it out of bed. Many days, I get my family out the door and then sleep for another couple of hours. I feel guilty.

I have been sick so many times. I have been on antibiotics 10 times in the last year. I know it's not good, but what can I do? I am feeling sick again, but I keep putting off going to the Dr. to see if I can fight it off myself. I have made an appointment in two weeks with an Immunologist. I have read that some people are born without certain antibodies to fight off infections. Sounds like me. Although I hope they are able to give me some answers, I'm not counting on it. I have been to so many doctors. I have had so many tests. I am so sick of it.

I feel like a failure as a wife and mother. I am not taking care of things like I think they should be taken care of. My house falls apart around me. Living in a house of boys, they just don't see things like I do. I want to be able to do it all. What's wrong with that?

Concerts

We went to Clinton's last Jazz Band concert tonight, and it was really good. One thing though...he plays drums for the Jazz I were they are supposed to be learning improv. All the other players had solos except him. I would have loved to hear him wail on the drums for awhile. (I would have preferred to hear him then that trombone player...oye!)

Clinton's "non school" band will be playing at a Relay For Life Benefit concert on Friday. There are, I think, 5 bands playing with all proceeds raised to go to the American Cancer Association. They will be playing a variety of tunes and styles...from rock to jazz. It would be a fun date night! If you don't have plans for Friday night, give me a call and I'll give you the scoop!

I just haven't been on the ball lately. My house is a disaster and I have no desire to do anything about it. Our trip to New Mexico went fine, although the funeral was a little....different. It was good to see old friends and visit, even if it was only for a day.

Today, I am taking Clinton to NAU for his scholarship audition into their music program. He is really nervous, but has been working hard and I'm sure he's going to do awesome. We just have one thing after another going on and it's hard to keep up!

I have been working on my digital scrapbooking skills. Here are a few pages I did from our Disney trip. It is great to be able to scrapbook without dragging out all my crap all over the table. It's so fun, but I've "wasted" a lot of time sitting at my computer working on them. They aren't really fancy, but I think their sorta cute!

It's been a long week, ya'll. Dave has been sick since Thursday. He missed work on Thursday and Friday and has pretty much been in bed the whole weekend. He is going to try and go to work today, but I don't know how that's going to go. He just is wiped out!

And, of course, no one around me can be sick without me joining in, right? I have been doing every thing I can think of to fight off this yuck. I don't feel great, but not as sick as I usually get. I am leaving this afternoon to take Clinton to New Mexico for his grandma's funeral tomorrow. It's going to be a REALLY fast trip, we'll come home Wednesday morning. I was going to leave The Bear home with Dave, but I've now decided to just take him with us. Oye! I'm really not looking forward to the drive. Clinton says that he'll drive, but I'm a nervous passenger. So, I'll probably do most of the driving.

We'll be back sometime Wednesday and I'll post again then. (I'll be sure to get a picture of all my ex husbands biker friends "escorting" the hearse to the cemetery.) Good times.

I have been taking a Photoshop Elements class over at 2 Peas. It is really great! Now, I can actually do digital scrapbooking without cheating! Yay! It is really easy! Yep...today's my birthday! 39 years! One year left until....AAGGHHH!

It's been an ok day. Mostly. Dave is really sick and has been in bed for 2 days. My ex husband's mom died, so we're waiting to hear on the for sure day for the funeral so I can plan a trip to take Clinton to New Mexico. Probably on Monday or Tuesday. Even my mom is sick.

Today, I ordered take out from my favorite place and had a "Birthday Lunch" on my couch...all by myself. (Awwww....poor Erica!) But, really...it's not that big of a deal. Blah...who needs birthdays anyway! lol

Cub Scout Pack Meeting

Last night was The Bear's first Pack Meeting! It was really fun, and he got his "Bobcat" badge and pin!

They had the boys paint "Bobcat" whiskers on a parent, and then the boys had to "do a good turn" before the parent could wash it off! The Bear helped take out the recycling when we got home, so Dave didn't have to go to work looking like a cat!

The workshop will be held on May 9th with registration beginning this Friday, February 20th.

I have been a big fan of both girls for awhile now. They are so talented and have shot some AMAZING photos! I would love to have the opportunity to attend their workshop! You all know that I've been trying to improve my skills. They will teach not only the basics of photography, but also how to improve your photos in Photoshop. I have been dabbling in Photoshop for awhile, but in no way have 'mad skills' in that area!

So...we're broke. Just like everyone else. There is no way we can afford to go out on Valentines Day. What's a girl to do?

The Day Before The Day

Yes. Today is the day...before the day. The dreaded "prep" day before the stinkin' colonoscopy. It is supposed to be really icky. I am not excited. So, to get through all this, I'm going to blog it. Sorry. If it's too much for you...turn away!

Ok...so, the first thing...yesterday I picked up the MASSIVE container of nasty liquid I'm supposed to drink. It is a delightful mix of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium chloride (salt). I am to consume 4 LITERS throughout the day. They have thoughtfully included flavor packets to mix in, which may be worse in the long run. But, wait...I'm getting carried away!

I'll start my morning with two fabulous laxative pills, chased with a beverage of my choosing. It will be Coke. Then, starting at noon, I begin drinking the salty goodness...an 8oz glass every 15 minutes. My plan is to chase the nastiness with another beverage of choice. Again, Coke. If I get hungry throughout the day, I can indulge in a luscious bowl of Jello. As much as I want! But not red, it dyes your insides. Did you know?

From then on, I'll spend the rest of the day...in the bathroom. I'll spare you the details...you're welcome. I situated a stack of books and a pile of TP in my favorite bathroom for hours of "leisurely" reading.

I'll end my day with a dinner of chicken broth and...more jello.

Yay. Aren't you jealous?

By the way, I'm sure you've heard that your colon can hold something like 15lbs of old, well, stuff in it? I'm testing this theory by weighing myself before and after the "cleansing". If I lose 15lbs today, it might all be worth it...right?

Bush Fires In Melbourne

I just got an email this morning from the dad of one of our Australian exchange students. He sent me a link with information regarding the bush fires that are happening right now in Melbourne. I am glad to hear that his family is well away from the fires, and today, I'll check that our other exchange student's family is ok. Both families live in Melbourne.

I feel bad that I haven't heard about the fires before today. I rarely watch the news anymore. I need to stay more up to date with what's going on!

Nearly 200 people and countless wildlife have lost their lives in this inferno. Those who have been able to escape are left with just the clothes on their backs. Please say a prayer for all those in harms way and for those battling this terrible fire. I hope they can get things under control soon!

A Must Have

After reading Kristina's blog these last few weeks, I have come to a scary realization...

How can I possibly get through the colonoscopy on Thursday without a Snuggie?? It seems like the perfect combination of comfort and practicality! Warm, secure, and open down the back!

If they can be worn to a football game, what would stop me from wearing it to a sick and wrong medical procedure?? Nothing...that's what! So...does anyone have a Snuggie I can borrow? I promise I'll completely launder it before giving it back.

No Fun

I have been out of commission for days now. I have had a horrible headache and can't really take anything to help it. You see, I have a colonoscopy (good times) scheduled on Thursday and I'm limited to what I can take until then. Nothing with aspirin or Ibuprofen. This is not good. I had no idea how much I rely on those Excedrin I take almost every day. I am about ready to postpone the procedure, but I've already done that 3 times and I really need to get it over with. (I SO don't want to have it. It's kind of freaking me out.)

So, I've spent the last few days in bed with a cold pack over my eyes. I've even tried taking Lortab and Oxycontin from my emergency stash, but all that does is make me feel loopy. And nauseous.

I feel so crappy.

Grocery Savings

No pictures! Again! Sorry...it about wiped me out to get the shopping done yesterday. There was no way I could do the pics. I haven't even put all the groceries away yet!

Anyway. You know my goal. To spend only $300 on groceries each month. Here's how I did for the last 1/2 of January.

I spent only $116 on $358 worth of groceries! That's a 67% savings!

(Dave's favorite deal of the week was Hungry Man dinners for $1.50. He loves to take them to work for lunch.)

Beachy Keen!

Before we started the drive home yesterday, we went over to the beach for a few hours. What a beautiful day! The water was cold, but it didn't stop the kids (or me) from wading in! Once your legs are numb from cold, it feels fine! We had a really great time, but the drive home was not so peachy.

I had started getting sicky feeling the last night at Disney, and by the time I got home, I felt like total crap. Luckily, I was able to get into a Dr. this morning and get some drugs. I have an MRI scheduled next week to see what's going on with my sinuses. Something has seriously got to give!

Disney On A Dime

By now, you all know that I'm a big fan of doing things on the CHEAP! The Bear and I are leaving for Disneyland on Sunday and we're going to be eeking out the money to be able to go. I have been searching for deals on souvenir items to take with me, so I don't have to pay those Disneyland prices! I've found stuff not only for The Bear, but for my nieces and nephew too!

You know how much I love Goodwill! I found all of these plush items there for 50 cents each! And I only bought the ones that had the original Disney Store price tags on them. (For between $7 - $10 each!)

I found these cute paint sets at CVS for $1.50 each! WOO HOO! And, I picked up these cute little notebooks and matching crayons at the dollar store for the kids to use as autograph books! Hannah Montana and Tinkerbell for the girls, and Pirates for The Bear.

I am also taking a crap load of snacks and treats for the kids to have while we're in the park. Oooo...I'm getting so excited!

The Explanation To The Picture

The boys is my family are huge fans of Mythbusters. On one of their recent shows, they took two phone books and joined them together, page by page. The deal was that friction would hold the books together and they could not be pulled apart.

So, on Clinton's recent trip to San Diego, he and his roomies tried it with the hotel phone books. (Sorry Hilton!) In the picture he and Jeff are each holding a book while the unknown Guitar Hero fan stands on the joined part. Voila!

I celebrated Innaguration Day by boosting the economy at the grocery store.

We are like everyone else and are trying to tighten our belt buckles. So, to do my part, I am going to attempt to spend only $300 a month on groceries. $150 every two weeks. This will not be easy, but I'm up to the challenge. I will post my savings each month to keep track of how I do. (I will also occasionally post pictures, but not today. I was totally wiped out when I got home after battling all the snowbirds for cans of cheap Chunky Soup! I've got to remember to go shopping after 6pm when they're all in bed!)

Last night, I hit Albertsons, twice. My first trip, I spent $45 on $113 worth of groceries for a savings of 60%. Then I came home, printed off some more coupons and sent Clinton back where he spent $9 on $40 worth of groceries...78% off! FABOO!

Today, I went to Fry's. It took FOREVER, but it was worth it. I spent $94 on $233 worth of groceries...60% off. I also decided to give CVS a try. I have heard really good things about figuring out how to work the Bonus Bucks. I purchased seven 12 packs of Pepsi Products which came to $21. (Dave will be so happy! Finally...some Diet Pepsi!) I used my $5 bonus buck coupon, which brought the total to $16. My receipt printed out a $10 bonus bucks coupon. So, the seven cases actually cost only $6...total.

My total....$154. Not Bad. Will it last us for two weeks? I'll let you know....

Busy, Busy, Busy

I've got a busy week ahead of me...again! No time for sitting around...lots to do!

Monday...Dr's appointment, grocery shopping
Tuesday...Counseling appointment
Wednesday...Going to the musical "The Lion King" at Gammage with my mom! Yay!
Thursday...Getting things ready for our Disney Trip
Friday...Cub Scouts
Saturday...Dave got tickets to Disney on Ice: High School Musical, so I'm taking Kayden and a 11 year old girl from our Ward. We're WAY excited!
Sunday...Church, then driving to California!! WOO HOO!

I've got to get my house all pulled together this week. I'm getting home from California just a day before Kayden's baptism. And I'll have company staying here too. Maybe it's time for another Red Bull??

Here's the invite to Kayden's Baptism. Dave is printing them at work today, so we SHOULD get them in the mail tomorrow. I hope.

For the luncheon after, I'm going to pick up a 6 foot sub sandwich and then do potluck. We're just going to go to the park. Fun and easy!

Reflections of Christ Program

Dave and I put on our latest Ward Party tonight. Thanks to everyone's help, it was a huge success and a really spiritual evening. I decided to post some of the narration from the program for those interested in reading it. Dave compiled it from several different conference talks, Ensign articles and scripture. We also showed the Reflections Of Christ slide show and were really blessed to have Freddie Ashby, who sings on the DVD and CD there with us to sing live. It was a really awesome night! Narration Part 1:

" Jesus Christ commanded us to love one another, and to bear one another’s burdens. He commanded us forgive others there trespasses against us. He commanded us to turn the other cheek, to go the extra mile, to be meek and humble.

In today’s world, how do we do these things? How do we make time in our busy schedules to watch over each other, and take care of our families? How do we put away bad feelings, and strong emotions? How do we make peace with the world, with others, with our spouses… with ourselves?

We will never be happy or feel peace; we will never deal well with life’s ambiguities; we will never live up to who we are as children of God until we overcome out mortal identity crisis by understanding who we are, who we have always been, and who we may become.

When we harden our hearts, gospel counsel looks unrealistic or impossible. But when we soften our hearts, amazingly, we begin to ask different questions of ourselves and allow the Lord to comfort us in our search for peace.

When Enoch was shown a vision of the fate of those in the Flood, he had bitterness of soul, and wept over his brethren, and said unto the heavens: I will refuse to be comforted. Enoch had to learn that to refuse to be comforted is to consciously spurn the comfort of God. The Lord said to Enoch, “Lift up our heart and be glad.” Enoch’s refusal to be comforted and his bitterness went hand in hand. Yet the Lord did not abandon him. He showed Enoch that the descendants of Noah would all be given the possibility of sanctification and eternal life.

If the Atonement is applicable to Enoch, who repented of his bitterness of soul, then persons suffering their own bitterness can similarly repent and receive the comfort of the Lord. We gain greater understanding by asking ourselves the following questions:

Have I refused to be comforted by the Lord?
Have I truly sought through prayer in meekness and lowliness of heart to be comforted by the Lord?
Am I willing to cast my burden on the Savior so that I can get on with life and be at peace?

The adversary would destroy any hope we have in overcoming our mistakes. He would have us feel that we are lost and that there is no hope. In contrast, Jesus reaches down to lift us up, and gives us a brightness of hope.

Narration Part 2:

" Our Redeemer took upon Himself all the sins, pains, infirmities, and sicknesses of all who have ever lived and will ever live. No one has ever suffered in any degree what He did. He knows our mortal trials by firsthand experience. He suffered more than any other mortal could.

The Atonement not only benefits the sinner but also benefits those sinned against-that is, the victims. By forgiving those who trespass against us, the Atonement brings a measure of peace and comfort to those who have been victimized by the sins of others. The basic source for the healing of the soul is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. This is true whether it be from the pain of personal tragedy, or calamity on a national scale.

The injured should do what they can to work through their trials, and the Savior will succor his people according to their infirmities. He will help us carry our burdens. Some injuries are so hurtful and deep that they cannot be healed without the help from a higher power and hope for perfect justice and restitution in the next life. Since the Savior has suffered everything that we could ever feel or experience, He can help the weak to become strong.

We long for the blessing if the Atonement-to become one with Him, to be in His divine presence, to be called individually by name as He warmly welcomes us home with a radiant smile, beckoning us with open arms to be enfolded in His boundless love. How gloriously sublime this experience will be if we can feel worthy enough to be in his presence. The free gift of His great atoning sacrifice for each of us is the only way we can be exalted enough to stand before Him and see Him face-to-face. The overwhelming message of the Atonement is the perfect love the Savior has for each and all of us. It is a love which is full of mercy, patience, grace, equity, long-suffering, and, above all-forgiving.

Narration Part 3:

"We all want to go to the Celestial Kingdom. We want to be with our Father in Heaven. But no matter how hard we try, we come up short. At some point all of must realize, “I can’t do this by myself. I need help.” Then it is that the Savior says, in effect, “All right, you’re not perfect, but what CAN you do? Give me all you have, and I'll do the rest.”

He still requires our best effort. We must keep trying. But the good news is that having done all we can, it is enough. We may not be personally perfect yet, but because of our covenant with the Savior, we can rely on His perfection, and His perfection will get us through.

In 2 Nephi chapter 2 verse 8 it reads: 'There is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah.'

There is no other way. Many of us are trying to save ourselves, holding the Atonement of Jesus Christ at arm’s length and saying, “When I've perfected myself, then I'll be worthy for the Atonement.” But that’s not how it works. That’s like saying “I won’t take the medicine until I’m well. I'll be worthy then.”

We must try to do His works with all that is in us, but then having done all, we can trust in His redeeming blood to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

If we will enter into that glorious covenant Jesus offers us and give Him all that we have, holding nothing back, trusting his ability to make up for what we lack, He will exalt us. With Him pulling with and for us, we can move forward in confidence toward our Celestial home. "

We then showed the slide show and ended with another beautiful musical number sung by Freddie Ashby.

Today was my Grandma's 95th Birthday! The Bear and I went out to her house for a luncheon that my mom and dad gave for her and some of her friends. It was a nice day!

Today, I found out that Dave's internet business made enough over the holidays for The Bear and I to go to Disneyland! So, before he got home, I printed out a letter from Mickey and put it with the Mickey Mouse plush I picked up at Goodwill on Saturday. (Brand new with the original tags still on it...69 cents!)

He was SOOOO excited! When he is really, really happy, his eyes get all teary.

We can hardly wait until it's time to go! I made a little calendar for him to count down the 13 days until it's time to go! WAAAA HOOOO!

Fingers And Eyes Crossed

About 5 years ago, Clinton's Jr. High band did a trip to Disneyland, so we were able to tag along and take The Bear for a few days. He was REALLY young and can't remember much of it. I have been wanting to take him again for awhile now, as he is at such a fun age and more "self sufficient". But really, we just can't afford a family vacation. Alas and Alack.

Well, I've been making plans for his Baptism, and found out yesterday that some of my family will be going to Disneyland the week of and will try to come here on their way back to be here for the big day. They asked if we could possibly meet them in California for a couple of days of Disney fun since it's only about a 5 1/2 hour drive! There is no way that we can all afford to go, but MAYBE we can wrangle a way for The Bear and I. (Don't feel sorry for Clinton...he just got back from his Holiday Bowl trip and don't forget...he's going to Europe this summer. Feel a LITTLE sorry for Dave though!) We will be the "Vacation Crashers"!

I don't want to say anything to The Bear yet. We've got to figure out the money situation first and I wouldn't want him to be disappointed if something happens. But I feel hopeful! Clinton and I went to Disneyland when he was 8 and we had such a great time! I think The Bear will LOVE it!

Avert Your Eyes!

Every couple of months, we get the opportunity to attend a show at a local dinner theater. The company Dave works for does all their print work and is an advertiser, so they get a handful of "comp" tickets to give out. We have really enjoyed all the shows we've seen there.

Well, Dave just called to see if I wanted to go to the show tomorrow night. A FREE date? Duh...Of course I want to go! So, the show is:

This should be exciting! Maybe I should bring one of those hoods you cover a horse's head with to put on Dave! He refused to go see "The Full Monty" a couple of years ago, so I went and took Sharree. It was that kind of hilarious that you feel guilty about laughing at. We left at intermission! I know nothing about this show, so maybe we'll have to leave at intermission again. But...a free dinner is a FREE DINNER! I'll let you know how it goes....

For the past little while, I have had a really hard time sleeping all the way through the night. I wake up at about 3:30, worrying about something or another, and just can't get back to sleep. It is making me crazy! I have such a busy day today, I may have to resort to the emergency energy drink hiding in my fridge. I have an appointment at 10. The Bear has an appointment in Phoenix at 2. I have a Band Booster meeting this evening. Plus...I have no groceries. Not even any milk. Blah.

I have two big events coming up next week that are the center of my worries. The first is the Marching Band Award's Banquet that I'm in charge of. It is next Tuesday. I'm hoping to round up some help for it at the Band Booster meeting tonight.

The second, is our Ward Party next Saturday night. I am still not 100% sure about what I'm going to do for the program. I've handed out three songs for people to sing and I'm going to show the Reflections of Christ slide show, but I need something else. I just don't know what. At least I have the food and decorations figured out...for the most part.

If I could just sleep, I know my mind would be better capable of dealing with stuff. But I can't.

The Bear's Birthday

Wow! We had such a busy weekend! On Saturday, The Bear turned 8! He wanted to go bowling, so we took him and a few of his friends on Saturday morning. My mom and I had to leave a little early to make it to a wedding, (previous post) but everyone had a great time!

He didn't want to use the ramp this time, so he had to figure out how to get his fingers in there!

There we go....Yay!

We did most of the presents at home in the afternoon. He got WAY too much stuff!

Me and The Bear

On Sunday, The Bear and Dave made a birthday cake to take to our family dinner that night! Then, I let him decorate it himself. He later said it was the "Best Cake In The World"!

A Wedding

My mom and I also went to a wedding on Saturday afternoon! My friend, Holly and her new husband, Andy. Holly's dad was the photographer that day, but he let me side shoot along with him, giving me TONS of great photography tips and advice!
