This One Really Chaps My Fanny!

Last night, as I was making dinner, one of those "entertainment news" shows was on in the background. One of their stories caught my attention. They were making a big deal about the magazine Cosmo Girl because they were using a "plus size" model as their covergirl. They then showed parts of the photo shoot with a beautiful young girl who was, in no way, "plus sized". The "news" anchor then commented that this was the second time the magazine had used a size 10 model.

SIZE 10!!!!!!!! What kind of message is this sending to young girls?? If they wear a 10, they are overweight and plus sized?? Last time I shopped, plus sizes begin at 16, not 10. ARRRRGGGGHH! This makes me SO crazy! Really, we should try to keep our girls away from such magazines with those insane ideas!!

I'm afraid this comments is nowhere related to big-sized models or otherwise. I could not continue surfing the web earning my credits at BE, without letting you know how beautiful your site is.

It really struck my attention. My eyes were glued to the screen until I read the whole page.

Congratulations for a great site! I agree that a girl must not be skinny in order to be beautiful.

Regards,

Omar.-

That really IS hideous. I get so tired of telling my fourteen-year-old and her friends that they are NOT fat. It's no wonder they have this idea that they're just not good enough!

Drama,

I can't imgaine why we have so many issues with anorexia. Not like our society drives our children towards a false standard.

I know I am probably the only guy who might respond to this; however, having two beautiful girls of my own I am quite sensitive to the crap the media feeds our precious ones.

Great post, Dave's beloved wife!

size 10? that's my left leg! It's time for fashion to get a grip on reality. That is just insane.

Okay......I think plus sizes begin after size 18. Mainly because you usually have to go to a different department for above 18. But you are right. Some peoples bone structure is larger than a 10 and that doesn't count skin and the other junk.

It's a bad thing. They are still promoting the Barbie Fetish. And in all reality people, females especially, are emotional hags if they are always trying to be that skinny.

So...I am venting with you!!!!

I have this beef with Nutrisystem right now. That survivor chick makes a big deal about going from a size 10 to a size 4. Hello - I'd KILL to be a size 10 again! She didn't need to lose weight at size 10!!!

I'll rant more on that on my own blog when time permits, but it's been eating at me for a very long time now. Ugh.

Oh good lord - word verification is ezmkoame

AMEN! That crap annoys the hell outta me too! I have two daughters, and being a recovering anorexic myself, I try sooo hard to instill good HEALTHY body image into those girls. They know what I've been through and how I am still suffering the side effects of such bull, and yet, it seems at every turn there is always idiots who put that kind of crap out there for our society! GRRR!

The thing is, Plus sizes start at 16 or so. But in all the Plus size catalogues, they use size 12 models. So the clothes look great in the catalog and look like crap when you actually get them. When you consider that "regular" size models are a 0, the 10 really looks a lot bigger! But those girls are sick, sick, sick (the 0's).

At my ideal weight (using a fat counter), not only am I a size 10, but I'm borderline overweight on the BMI.

A healthy woman in childbearing years shouldn't have less than 21% fat. At almost 5'4", my ideal weight is actually 145. I was there - once before I had kids and in the pictures, I DO NOT look fat.

This is sad, especially since this is promoted by "experts". How many people who aren't like us who think the "experts" are gods in their fields?

I wonder how many "experts" are actually funded by the weight loss industry?

I wish I were a size 10 again. I can't believe they consider that a plus size...

The average size has supposedly gone up to 12. When is society going to realize that they need to be realistic when it comes to what women should look like. How many women feel bad enough about their bodies without saying someone smaller than the averages is "plus". As someone who really IS plus size and with a teenager daughter (who luckily is not) it is very scary. They are ruining women's realistic goals out there.

girls? Cheez puts Bear in a dress and now you want to keep your "girls" away. Poor Bear, he's gonna have an identity crisis.

From what I can see, not many blogs talk about stuff like new balance slip resistent for women and that is sad. I think your blog is great that way.

keep it up.
