There she is....

So, what do you think about the Miss America pageant. This year, ABC dropped the rights to air it, so it was on CMT.(Country Music Television) Is this a sign that America is loosing interest?? I love to watch the pageants, my family of boys can't stand them! So last night, I watched it alone in my room as the boys watched a more masculine movie in the family room. Although I fell asleep before it was over, I was still enthralled by the "princess-y" quality it had! Isn't it every little girls dream? Or didn't it used to be?

What do you think of the Miss America pageant? A good thing? Or degrading to women?

Oh, I don't think it is degrading to women at all!

When I was little, I watched those pageants religiously. I thought it would be so neat to be as thin and beautiful as they were. It didn't even give me an eating disorder..imagine that. :)

When you think about it, I suppose the pageants are a good thing. Offering scholarships and such. I say..more power to them!

I have 1st hand experience with pagents. My younger sister has been in two and I've even judged one.

It's not as easy as it looks. Those girls work hard to get where they are.

I think they are cool to watch. I realy like Sandra Bulloch's view on them in Miss Congenality (did I spell that right???)

I remember the local Connie Mack pagent being called an offering to the baseball god-like players. Here are our prettiest girls...please place your seed in them and do what ever you want with them!!!!!

I think they are fun to watch...and I've always wanted a crown--but at what price??

I was in the Connie Mack pageant! I was an "attendant" to the winning team that year! Bret Boone Was on our team. He and his brother Aaron are both in the majors now. Anyway..no one planted any seeds this way...but I know a lot of girls who were gardened!

Hello Fellow Olympian,
I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't help but notice the contrast between your first blog and this one.

Nice lookin' blog. It has that princess feelin'.

I think the last time I watched it was when I knew Miss Utah ('98 or '99)...or was that the Miss USA pageant? I don't know.

I steer clear of CMT, so I may never see it again. Lol.

I don't know that it is degrading to women. A lot of it has to do with intelligence, poise and junk like that. :)

Hey Mama,

I get pagent entry forms sent to my house all the time... I don't know if this is normal, but I have been getting them since the Angel was 6 months old.... she was a beautiful girl and remains so.. (if I do say so myself.. and I tell you, those looks do not come from me!) But do I encourage this pageant fever? No, as a good geek girl, I do not... beauty is as beauty does.. but brains last forever...

That being said, I missed watching the pageant.. it is a guilty pleasure...

BTW, welcome, to My Kids are Pigs!

I worshipped every awards show known to the three major networks when I was a kid. Miss America, Grammy Awards, AMA Awards, Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, People's Choice, whatever. Now? Eh, who cares? I watch the Oscars for fun, but they have long since lost their minds over in the judging department. Back to Miss America, no, it is not degrading. Those girls work hard to get there and more power to them!

When I was a little girl, I LOVED the pageants.

Now, I HATE them. I don't watch them, don't follow them, don't think about it. I think there are far, far better ways for young women to pursue success in life. Yeppers.
