Weekly Reader

I am currently reading a book that I hate. I guess the writing is pretty good, but the topic and story are just terrible! It is the most depressing book I think I've ever read. The book is "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. It was an "Oprah's Bookclub" book. You may wonder why I keep reading it? I don't have an answer for that. It's just that when I start a book, I feel like I have a duty to finish it, bad or not.

I think have about 25 pages left. I can't wait until it's over!

I have that same problem. Unless a book is truly awful, I have to finish it. I feel like I've already invested that much time in it, I may as well find out how it ends!

Have you tried the Mayfair Witches?? Excellent book. The first 3 of the series are, the last 2 get kinda hokie though.

It's not about "double bubble toil and trouble" it's about a "haunting" of a family.

I read 3 of the "Vampire Chronicals" that I didn't like just because they were the end of the series. I couldn't finish the last one....it was too horrible

I'll see if this works this time. I'm new at this. When I put Ruded down below it wants me to sign up for a blog. So I'll try anonymous. I'm glad someone else besides me feels that they have to finish the book they're reading. The only book that I've not finished (in 3 tries) is Anne Rice's "Violin". (And I do feel Guilty.) Ruded father of Strude.

Yeah, there are very few books that I won't finish once I've started them. Partly because I keep hoping they'll get better, partly out of a sense of duty. I did like "She's Come Undone" though.

YES! Quite a few years ago, EVERYONE told me I HAD to read this book. So, like you, I bought it and then FORCED myself to read as much as I could bear. It was terrible! I hated it! I finally said, "Screw this, I'm not enjoying it, so I've had it!", I put it away and never finished it. I can't believe you forced yourself to go as far as you did.

I guess I could say congratulations are in order?

THIS IS FOR Ruded Father of Strude--

The Violin is semi boring but a good book if you ever get thru it. I am a great fan of Anne Rice but it seems her newer stuff isn't more difficult to read but more difficult to endure......

To peebugg; I'll try again. Maybe at the first snow, but I'll try to finish Violin. Thanks, Ruded Father of Strude.

I do the same thing. I read a book I don't like just to finish it. Its not the same with television, I just flip the channel. Strange that I'll invest up to 8 hours of my life on a lousy book but not waste 2 on a bad television show.

you know, I didn't enjoy it either..everyone raved about it, and it was part of O's bookclub so I tried..I got maybe a few chapters in and that was it..

it's funny that i saw this post since I was thinking of it the other day...why I couldn't seem to get through it even though I usually finish a book..bad or not.

part of it was the swearing..i was trying of the F word every other line but it was just depressing..and the flow was off

ROL PLEASE! Do yourself a favor and just throw the book away! It might give you a feeling of liberation! What have you got to lose? The book is BORING! LOL
