Back to Normal?

My husband got home from the hospital last night. He is feeling really tired, but ok. He went back to work today, although he probably shouldn't have. He doesn't get sick pay at his work. For that matter, he doesn't get holiday pay or paid vacation either! A piece of crap, to me! Anyway, he had already missed three days this week, so he decided he'd better go.

Did you know that if your body doesn't have enough potassium, your heart will stop??? That's what we learned this week. The docs found out that his level was really low, and that his heart was complaining about it. After several IV bags full, his level is ok now, not all the way up, but ok. They're pretty sure his high blood pressure meds were the culprit, he's on new ones now.

Hopefully, things will get back to normal now, whatever that is!

Your heart will also stop if your potassium is too high. Now you can wow the doctors with your knowledge! It is called hyperkalemia and causes ventricular fibrillation.

Yep. Any electrolytes out of whack can do it.

Echo (now 5, but 3 at the time) poisoned herself with her ashtma meds. I didn't tell TFB at the time but they kept checking her potassium for that very reason. (If I would've told him, he would've freaked completely. He was already a basket case.)

Glad your hubs is doing better. (Mine doesn't get sick days either - even with a union. That bites.)

Phew! What a time you're having. I hope that things start calming down for you, soon. In the meantime, tell the hubs to eat a banana, everyday -- and while you're at it, grab one for yourself, too.

Good luck!
