News on My Dad

Hi all. I have been in New Mexico for the last week and a half with my father, who has been in intensive care. He has a ruputred esophagus, but they didn't discover it for three days, giving him a 10% chance of survival instead of the 80% he would have had if they found it day one.

I am feeling exhausted, drained and bitter. I hate doctors, although, since he was flown to Albuquerque, the doc's have improved a ton!

I sure hope he can pull through this. I don't know what I'd do without him.

If anyone is interested, I post updates on his condition on my family's blog at:

Sorry to hear about your dad! I jumped over to the other site and saw that the hole in his esophagus is near his stomach, and they wanted to attach his stomach where the hole is... My husband had a similar surgery for a condition he has had most of his life, called achalasia (I'm not even sure if I spelled it correctly). The only doctor who was willing to do the surgery was a G.I. specialist, and he refused to do it anywhere but the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Scottsdale. Lots of petitions, letters, etc. to insurance to do it, but it worked out well.

I'm sure your dad has good doctors and care, but I thought I'd mention this as a possibility.

Best wishes!
