Way To Go Vegan Boy!!

He did it! My 14 year old said he was going to go Vegan for one month, and he made it! I'm really proud of him! It's not easy changing your eating habits, but going vegan is especially hard! He has had numerous temptations along the way, but he has perservered! A happy side effect is that he lost 25 lbs! WOO HOO!

He doesn't know if he's going to continue with the vegan thing after today. He may just go regular vegetarian. One thing he discovered that he really likes is veggie pizza with no cheese. It was really tasty, and you don't miss the cheese at all. Try it on your next pizza night! You might be surprised!

Wow! 25 pounds is amazing. Maybe he should write a diet book for teens! That would be a cool summer project for him. (And right now, he is probably hating me for that suggestion.)

Whoa how did he do it? Is anyone else in your family vegan? He sounds like a very determined boy!

There are no more vegans that I know of in our family. In fact, we're all on the "eating junk" side. It started out as bet between him and a friend, but they're thinking of staying that way! Good for them!

Wow - 25 pounds in a month? Unfortunately, only about 12 of those were fat pounds (and that's a generous estimate - studies show you can't lose more than 2-3 pounds of fat per week), meaning that he lost quite a bit of lean mass, too. What are his choices for protein?

Does he know anything about vegan nutrition? Is he getting his B12 from a supplement or nutritional yeast? I highly recommend the book Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Plant-Based Diet.

That's great! So many teenagers are very much into junk food these days and it's refreshing to hear of your son who ate vegan for a whole month!

wow....i could never have the kind of dedication needed to be a vegan...an old boss of mine was, and going to lunch with her was hard...even the veg resturant had few vegan options...

i hope he's being healthy about it, instead of the way I became vegatarian-ramen noodles and peanut butter!
