Dive In

Here in Arizona, it is so hot throughout the summer that everyone swims. Young and old, fat and thin, ghost white or tropically tanned. Where do I fit in? I'm in the middle aged, plump and ghost white category. I would prefer never to be seen in a swimsuit, but as my boys are dying to go, I must too partake. Dang it! And, alas, we are not one of the 90% of valley dwellers with our own pool.

I have purchased a suit online which I hope will cover up my various parts with the least bit of humiliation. Just in case, I also bought a really big t-shirt to hide under! Swimsuit shopping is right up there with childbirth on the fun things to do list. It would be nice if we could all just accept and love ourselves the way we are, but..I don't see that happening any time soon!

How's the hunt for your perfect suit going?

Have you thought about getting a sarong to go with your suit?
I've been terrified of wearing a suit in public for years, myself being the "chunky, ghost-white" type, and this year I got a little sarong to go around the waist.

It's actually very pretty and feminine and it hides all the worst parts...

Enjoy yourself... I'm looking forward to swimming season myself.

I am the scariest person in the universe to see in a swimsuit. At over 350lbs. and whiter than the sun, I could scare blind people. However, I have found that I really like the mock tankini from Land's End. It covers in all the right places, and looks cute with a sarong like that other lady mentioned.

Honey,

At least Captain Ahab isnt after you like he is me... I hear "The White Whale... the white whale..." in my dreams. :)

omg...I avoid swimsuits like the plague. I, like you, would rather do just about anything other than go shopping for a swimsuit. Thankfully, I don't have a pool or anything resembling a pool. And my kids are happy with a sprinkler. Long live my AC!

It does not matter how I look in swimsuit. As long as I enjoy the water to swim. That is how I see it. As of now I have the old swimsuit I had. I would like to shop for a new one. Thanks for your post!

I'm just not hunting...

It would be nice to swim again though...

Alas, last I heard Omar was out of the tent-making business.

Wouldn't want to get harpooned or anything anyway. (This year Echo is old enough to be out of the Mommy and me classes and into Level 1 swimming lessons on her own!)

I for one find you very attractive, no need to try and cover your body up!

I have finally figured out that regardless of who they are, women universally hate swimsuit shopping.

And just my luck, I found one that I liked, and from the time I bought it to the time I actually had to wear it...I managed to put on enough weight that I'm pulling out the t-shirt to hide under too!

I blogged about my swimsuit hunt. It wasn't pretty. My husband is buying me an elliptical tomorrow. Maybe I will work off that extra flab! My good friend has a pool. At least I can hide there most afternoons. I am from West Texas and it is hot and dry like Arizona!
